Savage 77 Marathons - 7 Days
|
|
On December 26, 2010, thirteen runners arrived for the 6:00 AM gun and the beginning of the Savage Seven - seven marathons in seven days. Five courageous (or irrational, depending on your perspective) runners would start and complete all seven. Other runners completed one or more of the series. In fact, this day included a first time marathoner. Little did she know that she was in the company of legends. It was the beginning of a wonderful week of laughter, challenges, encouragement, camaraderie, new friendships, and happy reunions for old friends. A great time was had by all.
This year’s event will be held in Pensacola, Florida on the track located on the campus of the University of West Florida; December 26, 2011 - January 1, 2012
The entry fee for all seven marathons will be $360.00 due by
November 1, 2011.
After that date the entry fee will be $380.00
Individual marathons/days will be $60.00 each/$65.00 after Nov. 1, 2011.
At this time a deposit of $60.00 is being accepted to hold
places in this year’s Savage 7 for those expecting to run all seven or more than
one day.
Send your deposit now to hold a spot!
All entrants will receive a shirt, goody bag and a medal for
each marathon completed.
Participants completing a marathon all seven days will also receive a special
finishers award.
I have been getting inquiries from all over the United States and due to the event’s growing popularity, I may have to cap the number of runners at 40. Get your deposit in as soon as possible to hold your place! The remainder of your entry fee for all seven days ($300.00) will be due by Nov. 1, 2011 (or $320 if after Nov. 1, 2011).
Your deposit will be completely refundable if you cancel your
entry before November 1.
After that date your deposit of $60.00 WILL NOT be refunded without good cause
(to be determined by the Savage7 Committee).
If you have paid the entire entry fee, and you MUST cancel after Nov. 1, 2011,
all but your $60.00 deposit will be refunded.

"The Fab 5"
Last year's finishers: Cheryl Murdock, FL; "MaMa" Jean Evansmore, MD; Johnny Spriggs, OK; Jim Simpson, CA; and Frank Bartocci, MN
A Note from the Race Director: At this time I am arranging group lodging at a reduced rate at a near by extend stay type motel. I am hoping to also have transportation for those without vehicles so renting a car will not be necessary. There will be plenty of food to enjoy while you run (or walk), breakfast and lunch served at the track. Possible evening meals and entertainment for those feeling up to it or perhaps a swim at the college aqua center. My goal is to put on a fun event that you will remember for a lifetime, yet keep the costs as low as possible. The course will be certified and insurance will be provided. You may take up to 8 hours to complete the distance. See you there! Cheryl Murdock

Proposed finisher medal.
Participants will receive a medal for each marathon completed with a different colored ribbon for each day, a shirt and goodie bag.

Larry Macon and Yolanda Holder, both pictured here in safety green jackets, completed their 106th marathon for the year on December 31st to set a new Guinness World Record

The first day of the event saw quite a crowd of marathoners including one first timer. Temperatures varied from a chilly 30ºF to highs in the 70ºF.
